My moms Maytag might be dead!

Twenty years ago, after going through a couple of new p.o.s. clothes washers, my parents retired and moved. I inherited their Maytag. My mom had inherited it from my grandmother sometime around 1980.
Remembering the old commercials about the Maytag repairman coupled with my personal experience, I am reluctant to get back in the market for this particular appliance.
Suggestions welcome.
