In Europe oil manufacturers must submit specific test results to get a letter of approval from a manufacturer. Some North American market products are marketed as "meeting such and such manufacturer specification" but not as "having such and such manufacturer approval." The basic difference is that some oils have actually gone through the approval process (expensive) and have an approval letter from the manufacturer that certifies that they have reviewed test data and have issued a formal approval based on actual test data submitted by oil maker. It is all in the wording, Anders. When they claim "meets the spec," what they are telling you is that they DO NOT have the formal approval and have not gone through the testing process. It only makes sense for a North American oil maker not to bother with Euro-specific battery of tests just to (maybe) get some obscure approval that 99.99999% of their customers do not know or care about.
Most Euro oil makers are PROUD to provide any customer with a copy of any formal approval letter they have on file.
