Agreed - but the scenario laid out in the question was that the river must be crossed. In my line of work, I am often asked to do a number of things that are somewhere between ill-advised to flat-out unsafe. At the end of the day, though, the customer is paying the bills and if they choose to proceed on a course of action against my advice, after signing an agreement making note of the fact, I'll just as willingly convert their old desktop PCs to mission-critical servers as I'll ford a disease ridden river. You don't make the big bucks in this game unless you're willing to act on the whim of the customer.
