We have one of those. From the looks of it it doesn't look too hard to install, as long as you have some basic carpentry skills like cutting into the the ceiling joists and stuff. My father made a cover for ours during the winter. It's that one inch styrene insulation then covered in a bunch of fiberglass fluffy insulation. Just make sure you unplug it before you put the cover on. Ours is a belt drive and seems to run fine; we haven't had any problems with it in the 10 years we've lived here now. It is really nice. We turn it on before we go to bed at night for an hour or so. We also have a fan in the attic in front of one of the outside vents. It's on a thermostat and whenever the attic reaches 95 degrees or something it turns on. Our house is also a two-story colonial and the fan is right at the top of the stairs. I would think you could find a good price for one at Lowes or Home Depot.
