When I first put mine in 10 years ago (Sears) it came with a simple on/off switch and the fan was too noisy for my taste, so I replaced it with a variable speed switch. And that has made all the difference. We mostly use it at night and now we can sleep. As long as the outside temp is lower than the inside temp, which is usually the case at night, it works fine.
