I agree with all who posted. Yes you will be tied to the train schedule but you'll get used to it. The trains are usually more frequent during rush so you really don't have to wait that long for the next one, just adjust your schedule accordingly.
I also agree with the walk from station to your office as good daily exercise. Metro North service isn't exactly stellar but I think it still beats stuck in traffic not to mention the wear and tear on yourself and the car.
The only problem I see is when the weather is bad (extreme temperatures, snow) and you have to walk that 20 minutes. On the other hand, you don't have to worry about car stuck in snow or overheat in traffic.
I would say try both and see which one you like better. If this is going to be a long term arrangement, I would think mass transit is a much better solution.
