There's so much about old iron that's cool.
I'm always amazed when I look under the hood of an old car and can see *everything* and actually can tell what it does.
I remember taking apart and cleaning a set of SU (or maybe Stromberg) carbs from my '66 Volvo Amazon on my buddy's kitchen table one night while he was at a work meeting. Took an hour or so and the car ran great afterwards. You just can't do stuff like that on modern cars. Or rebuilding a VW engine in a dorm room at college.
There's a helluva lot to be said for simplicity.
