when you repaired your chain, I'm assuming you took out two links to removed the bad one. Is there any chance you shifted into a combination of gears (Large ring up front, larger-than-most in the rear) and simply ripped the derailleur off because your chain was too short? That scenario would also cause the drive train to "tighten up" as you said.
I still don't think your frame or derailleur hanger should break though.
I'd go through the shop you bought the bike from. Best of luck.
