Or, could be tittled "Why cruise control SOUNDS practical, but is not put to good use". I noticed this while I was on the NY Thruway in my Ford Exploder, got my cruise control on, some yoyo in a Saab 9000 pulls past me at 95. a few miles up the road, I pass him again, then pull in front of him. Same thing happens, he blows past me, then a few miles up the road, I'm passing him again.
Just joking, but I know the feeling. I think not all cruise controls are created equal, some slow down on uphills, some don't, so even though both of you have your cruise control on, for maximum driving comfort, you both keep getting in each other's way. Another reason ( especially on NY Thruway) is trooper paranoia and radar detectors. I used to have them, then I discovered they slowed me down too much. You can tell those that have them hit their brakes for no apparent reason while rolling along because of all the false signals. I have not recieved a speeding ticket since I dumped my radar detector. I watch way up the road for brake lights, and I stay in the right lane as much as possible. You will find on the NY Thruway & every road in NJ, that the right lane is the new passing lane, as most folks just cruise in the left lane, I get in the right lane and haul ass. The trooper has his radar gun pointed at the left lane most ofthe time.
