I'm confused about something... Posted by Ari [Email] (#2847) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Ari) on Wed, 22 Aug 2007 10:09:27 In Reply to: Saab "pull ahead offer" good for them not me. In what universe would you expect Saab, GM, Ford, or anybody else to want to help you? (Not you you, but 'you' in general, as the car buying public. Please take no offense.)
The car companies' interest is in making money, by moving iron and getting as much money as they can to do it. Because there is a consumer involved and there is (some) free will, they need to move iron/make money in a way that doesn't crank you off so much that you won't buy. As arbitrarily close to that point as possible, yes.
You can't blame GM for taking a shot. Heck, they even list MSRP on a car, and on occasion, folks come in and buy cars at that price. (That's what it says on the sticker, Martha, must be what it'll cost...).
There are very few cases where when money is changing hands, one or both of the participants has the best interest of the other in mind. I can understand being a little put off by the 'offer,' but I wouldn't assume GM is going out of its way to insult you. They don't care that much.
As the mugger said, 'Nothing personal; it's just business.'
