if Mt Philo is what you're looking for, it's very close to Burlington and some nice hotels. Or the hotels may have the facilities you want -
the Hilton overlooks Lake Champlain, is newly extensively renovated since it just changed from a Wyndham to Hilton a couple of months ago, and had changed from a Radisson a year before that... It's got nice ballrooms and nice guestrooms, and in the middle of restaurants, nightspots, etc. in Vermont's largest city. More tranquil is the Inn at Essex, with the New England Culinary Institute resident in the facility. Smaller ballroom, although there is a large outdoor, tented (very nice though) area, and the food is excellent. The Sheraton has very nice ballrooms, and adequate guest rooms.
But since you asked about RESORTS - Stowe's Trapp Family Lodge, as I mentioned before, is really nice, as is the Equinox, mentioned by someone else, in Manchester - further south.
Good Luck!
