The BMI is weird in that it expects the same range for both genders, which when you think about it is pretty insane. Men have bigger bones, and greater muscle mass. So a man with a BMI of 26 is technically overweight, but may not actually have any excess fat at all, while a woman with the same BMI will be pretty fat (sorry to use the politically incorrect term). Meanwhile, if a man has a BMI of 20, that is in the "ideal" range, but in reality he'll be pretty much skin and bones. Personally, I don't put much stock in the BMI.
