...The oil company maintains it on a yearly basis so there is no expense there other than the yearly contract which ain't that bad.
As far as biodiesel... The tank becomes a reservoir. In the Spring I am going Biodiesel. That means I am getting rid of many of my cars in favor of a Diesel truck. My wife will drive the Durango, and I am getting a Diesel Jeep.
'So what' you say? By going Bio Diesel, I can add a pump to my fuel oil tank and fill my truck's fuel cell on the fuel in the tank meant for heating the house. The tank becomes duel purpose, and the fuel no longer remains there for long periods as I will use more to drive than heat the house. From What I understand Biodiesl and fuel oil mix OK, so the 'kerosene' will denature the biodiesel and prevent undo bacterial spoilage. Also, I will be making my own biodiesel as the local restaurant owners know me and have no problem giving me the stuff.
I agree that this requires a bit of planning and work, but I spend over 5k a year to drive, and when I add heating costs to it the number really flies up. If I can recoupe even 1/2 that money, it is worth it.
I will continue to post to let everyone know how it goes.
