I regretted not changing to gas because oil has gotten so expensive compared to gas. I also could have used the extra storage space where the tank currently resides. I would have loved to change to water, but it would have been way too expensive--my first choice was actually changing to hot air and incorporating AC into the project--way way too expensive. I live in an old building and already had the added expense of aspestos removal.
I believe that natural gas supply is less volatile than oil. However, with oil, you have what is in your tank, while with gas you are subject to supply--and out of luck if there is a problem with the distribution system. I had also heard that the Boston area has a problem with supplying enough pressure for natural gas (not sure what the exact and correct term is).
