of batteries (12x L16's)and against better judgement, they are less than 12' from a propane tankless heater (for hydronic floor heating) and a 40 gal propane powered water heater. when i do an equalizing charge, the hydrogen smell is very prominent. however, it 'escapes' upwards very quickly, so, consider that with your positioning.
consider buying one of those little inverters from HD, or the like, so you can do a few small 120v things when the power goes out (but don't expect miracles, and don't run the batt all the way down)
