one of the best ways to drive these (we had a '96) is in "automatic" 4WD mode. This way you are still RWD but the front drive kicks in when needed. It's mostly off or on, but when it hooks up you definitely notice the change in stability. The 4WD mode is really for slow going like sand very slippery roads and when you have situations like the left side is stuck off the side of a road and the right side has traction.
But like I said in a earlier post, once you lose control in one of these rigs (or most SUVs) the top heavy weight and high polar moment make getting it back in control a little exciting.
