In about a generation, tire dealers have somehow convinced people that one set of tires will function year 'round in the snow belt.
I don't understand it. Tire dealers could and should sell a summer set of wheels and tires (like my turbo factory wheels and new Nokians) and a winter set (like my $35 tirerack.com steel wheels and Gislaveds).
Not only would the tire dealers and manufacturers make more money, but people would get around like they're supposed to instead of unsubstantiated complaints or worse, ending up in the ditch because they believed "all-season" meant winter.
Don't get me wrong, I love seeing SUVs upside down as much as anyone, but on wet/snow/dry/ice, it's about the tires and about the driver.
So, get a proper set of tires and, like me, you'll run rings around the SUV crowd running on all-seasons. Oh, it's fun to kick snow in their face.
Try it, you'll like it.
