OnStar Needs Upgrading In GM Vehicles
Reported by: Naveen Dhaliwal
Last Update: 12/29 5:40 pm
PAINTED POST - If you have a GM car about two years or older with an OnStar system in it, you need to be aware that it may stop working soon.
That's because the system is changing from analog to digital and needs to be upgraded by December 31st. OnStar is a security and safety feature installed inside most GM cars or trucks, but it’s up to the owner to activate it.
One dealer says upgrading the system is inconvenient, but it’s not difficult. He says all you need to do is take your car into a dealership that works with OnStar. The factory will pay for the part and labor.
“If anybody wants to know if they need an upgrade they can call us here at the dealership give us the serial number of the car and we can tell them if they have the old system,” says Bill Baird, Manager at Fox Auto Group in Painted Post.
The dealer says you're only responsible for paying a $15 handling charge and you must to sign up for the on-star service for at least one year.
If you have further questions, call your car dealer.
