Not quite as interesting as pressure-treated lumber, but many years back I picked up a 240Z in expectedly beat condition. I pulled the driver's door panel off to fix the window, and found a Craftsman 3/8 socket wrench, badly rusted. I took it down to Sears and they gave me a new one, no questions asked.
This Z was the first car I had owned with a power antenna. But it was disconnected when I got the car. So I hooked it up and turned on the radio. The antenna extended, and then fell out of the car. The retaining crimp on the bottom of the antenna had rusted out, so the flex cord just kept pushing. It was hilarious.
I ended up putting in a new muffler, fixed the bad front-end shake by putting in new steering rack bushings (the old ones were gone, allowing about 1" of rack movement!) and spark plugs. Decided I didn't like the car that much and it was likely to be costly, and sold it for $200 more than I bought it for, including the cost of upgrades and tags. Could have been worse.
