Where they're made...... Posted by Herb Hirsch [Email] (#114) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Herb Hirsch) on Sat, 22 Mar 2008 07:22:48 In Reply to: General Saab information, Tammie, Fri, 21 Mar 2008 12:08:01 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Saab's are not made in the US! I have a 2007 9-5, purchased new after 280K trouble-free miles in my 2000 9-5.
The window sticker from my 2007 9-5 states, US/Canadian parts content: 1%; final assembly point: Trollhattan, Sweden; country of origin engine: Sweden, transmission: Japan.
The above is really not much different from my 2000 9-5.
Various news reports suggest that future Saab's may be assembled in Germany in an Opel plant. Nothing I've ever read suggests that they'll be manufactured in the US. News reports over the last several years have confirmed that German and Japanese cars assembled in the US are comparable in quality to those manufactured abroad.
Engineering, design and company management are much bigger factors bearing on user experiences. Consumer Reports over the last 2 years have shown an IMPROVEMENT IN SAAB RELIABILITY; for the last couple of years Saab has achieved top honors for safety by the US Insurance Institute.
Used Saab's that have been well-maintained are amongst the best deals around these days; your appreciation of your 9-5, and desire to continue are justified.
