I don't know where you're located, but much of the way this will play out depends on how experienced your local police department is regarding these matters. Actually, a smaller department that has some experience is sometimes better than a large department in a large city that finds itself inundated with these situations. Here's how it's done the correct way.....An undercover or tactical unit gets someone dirty coming out of there. If he's enough of a weasel or dirty from another situation (i.e. on probation or parole), he goes back in at a later time and makes a "controlled buy." The drugs are then turned over to the investigating officers and inventoried. Next, the officers, along with the buyer/weasel now go appear in front of a judge. It doesn't have to be a judge sitting in narcotics court, it can be a traffic court judge who's home watching a football game. The officers state their position and the facts are substantiated by the weasel who is known in all future reports only as the "confidential informant." Based on this testimony, search warrants and arrest warrants can be secured. The important thing is that the charges will not be for drug possession, but rather for delivery or sale or however your state terms the transaction. Possession charges a basically meaningless these days. I can pretty much guarantee that you will not be able to get this situation handled with a phone call. The unit that will ultimately handle this situation will need to meet with you regarding specific facts, dates, times, etc, and also will want to get a read on your credibility, i.e. that you're not a competing drug dealer vying for a disputed turf.
