So I wore out my Continental ContiProContact in approximately 11K miles. When I took it in to Discount, the authorized Conti dealer, the fronts were down to the wear bars and the rears were worn evenly bald on the center tread. I was running factory pressure so that should not have been the issue. I am a "spirited" type of driver, but not so much that it warranted THAT early of a treadwear.

Anyway, Discount told me they would credit me for the Conti's, but could not get in touch with the manufacturer as it was on a Saturday, but they would just do it.

So they talked me into the discount-specific yoko's (yk-520) even though I had never heard of them (yeah I am a sucker). But I figured since I wasn't paying much for them, I would try them out. However, when he rang me up, I declined the Road Hazard Certificates. He was visibly pissed. HE was saying that the Cert's were how he was "able" to warranty my Conti's, even though he just got through telling me he was 99% sure Conti would warranty them. Then he says he has to "go out an a limb" for me and the cert's were his insurance in case Conti said no-go. I held my ground saying that in all the years of purchasing the cert's, I never once used them. So he types on the computer for quite a while and then tells me to hang out while they mount everything up.

Well a couple of days goes by and I start noticing pretty severe vibrations. I take my car into another Discount and they tell me EVERY wheel was out of balance and that one of them was almost 2 grams out.

That is great customer service on Discount #1. Was he trying to get poor wear out of the current tires so they could deny me replacements next time? Did I just get the "difficult customer demarkation" on my file? Or am I just being paranoid?
