Laptop batteries. Always, always, always buy original manufacturer batteries, no matter how much cheaper the knockoffs are. I can't tell you if the new battery is the cause of your problems, but it's entirely possible. I'd try to get your money back and then bite the bullet and buy an original equipment battery either direct from Gateway or find a reputable place that sells Gateway products. I used parts-people.com to buy a battery for my Dell laptop, but I don't think they carry Gateway stuff.
