"Those who say it can't be done are usually interrupted by others doing it" -Joel Barker
Yes, that site is clearly produced by a group of over-the-top new-age greenies, but at least they took the time to put all the info in one place. And they are certainly enthusiastic about the cause. The world is full of snake oil salesman, scam artest and also "expert" naysayers. I usually try to get as much info as I can, from both champions and critics before I make an informed decision. Use the site and it's outside links to see what is said both for and against the probabilty of a split-water hydrogen engine and make your own mind up. It's easy to do quality research on the internet if you have the foresight to be both open-minded and a bit cynical while doing the research.
Yes, you can split water with electrolysis into brown's gas (HHO) but it costs more in production electricity than the benefit of the output. The ideal solution is to be able to split the water with less electrical input. Noone's really figured out a way to do this yet, although many people are experimenting and some claim to be close. The only way to ever have the "Aha" moment is to keep trying. If you hide your head in the sand of what is "known" scientific laws you are never going to achieve squat. Sometimes you just have to think more creatively. To complicate the problem, the ideal solution would also seperate the hydrogen gas from the oxygen gas prior to injection. (Heck ideally you'd inject the oxygen gas into the cabin to keep the driver hyper-alert--two plusses). The world is certainly a long way off from a commercially viable solution, but there are a lot of people working on it. Unfortunately, there are also a lot of scam artists saying were already there and you can DIY the solution or buy theres for $X. Anyone who decides to take on this hugely complex notion has to battle both scientific-truth minded people and petrolium special interest groups--two of the largest funding bodies.
In the 1800s it was thought impossible to ride a bicycle faster than 15mph. Scientific-minded people said that the wind resistance would make it impossible to breath. Currently there are groups of funded scientists trying to prove that cold fusion is possible. There are just as many scientific-truth minded people saying that it is an impossibility. Time will tell.
Frankly, I enjoy the debate.
