My biggest impression after driving and fixing a Saab for 5 years or so has been it is a really well thought out car especially in functionality. Sticking to turbocharging small engines has turned out a truly sensible choice, which needs to be emphasized. Not a race winner and a beauty contest winner, but all around simply sensible. Case in point, nowadays most major companies turbocharge smaller engines for both performance and efficiency.

Saab needs to play that it's a sensible car maker by sticking to what it believed to be the ideal form of engine and style (hatchback) while other makers go through many trends. Now both turbo and hatchback are coming back as sensible choices. People don't know about Saab enough to realize Saab has been trumpeting that all along. Once people learn that they'll recognize Saab's insight.

Also recently GM diluted that sensibility somewhat, but it's not totally lost. It must not be lost if Saab wants to keep its core identity and believe in surviving. If Saab doesn't make this message clear Saab will continue to struggle before being lost in our memory. But if people realize what Saab stand for and believe in Saab, no matter where it ends up, people will buy Saab for its heritage.
