Check the roof rack load limit carefully.

I'm pretty sure the the load is 100 Kg or 220 pounds...


And always use a strong line from the bow of the kayak to the front of the car. Never rely only on the straps to the rack.

FWIW a trailer is the best solution. Small trailers (<600 lbs) have almost no impact on driveability, speed or fuel economy. If you do get atrailer, bear in mind that the longer the tongue, the easier it will be to back up. Short tongue trailers are very twitchy/frustrating when backing, even for an experienced driver.
