I think a lot depends on where you live. I live in upstate NY. I've got a 20x40 pool that I just bought a safety cover for last year. Everyone around here recommended the full mesh cover. Basically, because no matter how tight you get the cover, the snow load will make it sag a bit. Once it sags, you can get water ponding in any grid square that doesn't have mesh in it. Full-mesh would be my recomendation for heavy-snow areas.
