This time it's the underage Chinese girls on the gymnastics team. Everyone knows female gymnasts tend to look young due to their smaller statures and lack of physical development. This is true for members of all races. But the Chinese kid who is raking in the gold medals is certainly not 16, IMHO.
Another issue is the judging. It was evident last night that the experience level of the judges is not equal for every athlete. This is patently unfair and the IOC and the various sports associations need to address this. Subjective sports like gymnastics need judges who can be relied on to make good calls. And second, I don't think the tie-break "policy" is fair or reasonable. I don't have a problem with two golds being awarded when there's a tie and a silver medal going to a third place finisher.
But then, this Olympics is in China, a country that has no problem with violating things like copyright laws or with theft of intellectual property. So why should distorting the age of a talented gymnast be any different?
