Everything about the Olympics this year is HOKEY Posted by B Millar [Email] (#1109) [Profile/Gallery] (more from B Millar) on Wed, 20 Aug 2008 06:48:44 In Reply to: Small rant about the Olympics, Lawrence, Mon, 18 Aug 2008 20:31:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The media has been saying China is in the middle of some big changes, but I am just not convinced they're ready for them based on what I've seen related to the Olympics. They are CRAZY!
Strike 1: That little girl who sang at the opening ceremony was lip-syncing. They set this up last minute because the girl who was supposed to sing it was too ugly. They had her back stage singing while the cute girl in pig tails dazzled the audience.
Strike 2: The news story I saw the other night about protesters. China claimed to set up a bunch of places for protesters to do their things. NBC went to those places and found nobody. Apparently you need to apply for a permit to protest? Which everyone who applied was denied or arrested on the spot.
Strike 3: They demolished tons of home to build roads and buildings and stuff for the Olympics. Understandable, but some woman tried to protest against her home being mowed over and she was arrested immediately. Her family was told nothing and had no idea if she was alive or not. NBC found the prison she was in but were not allowed to see her.
Strike 4: The water they're using in Beijing. Apparently Beijing is sucking all the water from nearby rice farmers. There was some poor old farmer standing in his rice field in a dust storm with tumble weeds blowing by. Supposedly the government is paying them. Riiiight....
Strike 5: Come on people, that gymnast is 14!! Maybe. I'd say 10. If tshe is 16, why does China feel it's necessary to block all internet stories about her?! She also stumbled quite a bit last night. Then the Romanian girl goes on, stumbles a tiny bit, but otherwise did an amazing job, and scored LOWER than the 12 year old Chinese girl. Even the commentators were saying that's not right.
I was very impressed by the opening ceremony. They're doing a good job impressing the world with that kind of stuff. But the little things that go on behind the scenes are freaking me the hell out. My house is probably going to burn down tonight after this post, but whatever...
