I am only 30 (I say "only" 30), I grew up in a different country where good working protection equipment was not the norm, I played in the catcher position, so I got hit a great number of times. I am not big or muscular by any stretch of the imagination. We had a pitcher (who played for my team) that had a very very fast ball, but not that much control. He hit me (and many other players) while pitching at us, and also hit me in at least three instances while he was batting because he would let the bat slip out of his hands...we were a dominant team but that didn't make the other teams feel bad, the would rise to the occasion and keep playing until they eventually got better and more competitive that put up a good game.
It is non-sense that the kids are afraid, society is creating a bunch of sisies. I don't have any kids, and probably will have reservations if I did, but based on my own experience, put on the helmet, go to home plate and try to hit the dang ball and not let it hit you. If either of the two happen, get up and keep playing, if it hurts too much stop playing, just don't ruin the game for everyone else. We have all ((baseball players) been hit. What if we wouldn't let some people pitch in the major league because they are too fast...what if a dominant hitter wasn't allowed to bat because he could hit someone, or is much better than all the other players....Again, this is non-sense.
