Before I reply, someone else posted that the real deal behind this is that the player we are talking about didn't get on a team, league full, it does happen, and then after the league started saw other "new kids" appeared on other teams. So they thought they were being excluded raised the question. Do know that you go on a wait list to fill in (in the order on the list, first on the list first used from the list) in case of injury, moving out of the district or town, that kind of thing. Also you are supposed to take the next on the list, not skip someone for someone you want. If you didn't sign up for the wait list (did they or not?) you don't get picked. I have no knowlege of the truth or completeness of this, but I have personally seen this happen, the ultimate looser is always always the kid.
So to continue...
Hopefully you would be moved up to play with others that would be able to challenge you and help you advance in the sport, not stand near the hoop and dunk the ball, that doesn't teach you anything and it's not the way the game would be played if you were on the court with a more typical mix. Sounds like you didn't have that opportunity? It's the same kind of thing on the academics side too, give the child what they can handle and want whenever possible and appropriate.
If you have kids that play in any instructional sport don't you want them to 1) enjoy themselves, 2) learn sportsmanship, and 3) learn the game?
No one complains when a child is a such a poor player that they get a special ruling to play at the lower levels than age would dictate. That is an accomadation for that child. Why would you not move an advanced kid player up? Why would you keep a child down and not allow them to expand?
I'm sure you know that the coaches are *encouraged* to play all of the kids at all of the positions in the lower age groups (not T-Ball, but when they are kid pitch level), you may have a hot first baseman or catcher or thirdbaseman or yes pitcher, and hey you *may* have more than one at several positions.
And yes, it is just a game and THAT is the point.
