OT: what's the best roof design?

I am thinking about building a house in the next few years. What is the best roof? The roof will likely be high due to the small lot necessitating a tall 2-3 story house.
I was thinking of a metal roof. However, it's hard to get to the roof if the house is tall. Metal roofs are also slippery and people can fall.
A wild card is a flat roof. Make the flat roof as good as a good commercial building. That way, one could walk on the roof. If you can walk on it, it's easy to fix. If you have leaves, you can just pick them up. On the other hand, water drains better with a slope.
