Each state has there own rules and policies for handling out of state moving violations.
In NJ, all out of state moving violations are assigned the same point value, two points. This is the lowest point assignment associated with a moving violation in NJ. In NJ, in-state moving violations are assigned points based upon the severity of the violation. For speeding violations the points escalate as the speed increases for up to 14 over to 20 over, to 25 over, etc.
As an example of the craziness.....A few years ago, I received a speeding ticket for 85 in a 65 in CT on I-84......no NJ points at all; they were never notified.
The point is, you have to research whether your state will be notified and if so, what will happen, if anything. It's just possible that getting the charge reduced by a few MPH will have a dramatic effect on the outcome. After you pay the ticket the die will be set.
