Vista/XP Dual Boot? Posted by B Millar [Email] (#1109) [Profile/Gallery] (more from B Millar) on Fri, 14 Nov 2008 07:28:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Okay I got a new Dell XPS laptop that is loaded with power and memory. At first Vista wasn't too bad but I have learned to hate it. It is raping my poor computer. Just idling it uses 2.5 GB of my 4 GB of ram. There are so many damn bugs in it that just keep coming out, like not going to sleep, or not waking up from sleep, the blue screen of death and a sudden restart are not uncommon. My fan is CONSTANTLY running because the processor has to keep up with Vista. It's just dumb.
So, it's not worth it at this point, and I don't have time, to format the hard drive and reinstall XP Pro from scratch. If I install XP as a dual boot will it still recognize all my Documents and Program Files (i.e. in the Start Menu) from Vista or will it be like running a fresh copy of Windows and I'll have to install everything again? Has anyone done this and had problems or success? Thanks very much in advance. I can't wait to get back to XP!!! No wonder everyone is walking around with MacBooks these days...
