The thing is, there are cars aplenty being manufactured in the USA, and their employees are paid well. Take the Honda that makes up 1/3 of my family fleet for, sinstance. After three years, it's never missed a beat, has no rattles and has retained, far as I can tell, nearly 70% of its original price. If I'd bought one of the (not so) Big Three, I don't think I could say that.
A bailout may temporarily prop up these companies, but in the long term, they're going to have to sell good cars that customers want and they're going to have to price them for more than it costs to build them.
So clearly, some things are going to have to change, because American consumers aren't limited to the Big Three's efforts.
