About 15 years ago I was ticketed for running a red light and hitting another driver and totaling both cars. I contended the other driver jumped the light but regardless I was most at fault if not completely. I was 24 or so at the time.
In court I was charged with a misdemeener (sp) felony with the fine suspended. My insurance rates didn't change since I didn't have a history of accidents and it is cleared after so many years.
I think if your son was given partial credit for the accident, which is common, I'd go to court with your evidence and plead that the accident has already created a financial "fine" or hardship and to have it suspended. And call it a learning experience. I'd skip the lawyer unless there were personal injuries.
