The trouble is collectables is that the collector takes all the risk that their collection is worthless. That's why one should collect for enjoyment, not for profit. Collect whatever you like.

I think the chances for Saab for the next decade are reasonable. It may not thrive but the company will be here. Within the last day or two, it seems only slightly possible that the company will be liquidated. I think the threat is only so GM will get Swedish government aid.

It is possible that the new owners will not be able to afford to develop new models and let the 9-3 get very old. It is also possible that the new 9-5 will be made for a few years in Germany then die out. It's also possible that there will eventually be a new 9-3 based on the buyer's other car line. This may or may not be so bad. The 9-3 was based on the Chevy Malibu and it improved it quite a bit. In fact, what are common parts with the Chevy?
