Have you seen those Chevy commercials with Howie Long and the poor dufus aspiring to be a trucker but having to admit that he got less highway mileage than Howie's V8 with his paltry Toyota V6 ? No real man or trucker would want to be caught with a V6 under the hood of his truck.

Over the years of seeing truck and SUV commercials , particularily those from Detroit - i have to admit they did a great job of seeling to guys desire to feel more powerful and secure in a big rig. Some were classics with big brawny beefy lumberjack type dudes exiting a superduty quad cab and so on. Only real men drive trucks.

Now I live in Denver where 4 wheel drive trucks and SUVs comprise 50% of the vehicles on the road. So I used to commute to work early before 7 when many of the vehicles on the road were 4 wheel drives driven by blue collar types. I was both amused and annoyed by these types driving aggressively and cutting off people in cars - esp. those driving Saabs and generally doing anything possible to let you know they were in command because they drove a man's vehicle.
But I could easily ignore this and laugh because these same blue collar clowns are usually the guys that are rushing to a job at 7AM and when there they get bossed around and treated like dirt by their foreman, or they get stuck doing some mindless repititive task day in and day out.
So let them feel more power or important when they drive their big rig - Detroit loves em forv this.
