PZEV is a great step to "help the environment"...
While that is a noble goal, I am much more interested in designs that help my pocketbook. PZEV still uses plenty of gas! Gas will not be cheap like this forever!
"Hybrid nonsense" is imho the solution, but not the nonsense we have now: gutless, complicated, hybrid drive systems pushing around mediocre appliances of cars. All the problems of ICE, all of the problems of electrics, overpriced such that they will never break even.
If they can get the cost down and volume up, the stuff PML Flightlink is making (used in Volvo Recharge) has great promise! Gobs of low end torque, simple design, fewer parts to break. Only needs gas for long trips. As I understand it, Saab collaborated in the effort that brought about the Recharge, so I am really hoping we'll see a Saab like this in a few years!
