I too was a VW guy for years (sold them too) and had several VW vans back in the day for purposes the same as yours. Seat of the pants it would probably be a little more "needy" than a comparible (year/miles) Odyssey but much better than a Dodge/Chrysler minivan. But it has so much more "soul" than both of them put togather. They're actually fun to drive and have the European feel you're used to. You'll be the only "kid" on your block with one. When I was in the car business I could never ever find them at auction because people who have them love them and sure don't part with them for wholesale. I still see Vanagans around town being used as everyday drivers--winters included. I vote for the VW.
