I bought a new 3/4hp Hayward in 97 (16x32 pool) but have had to rebuild it twice during those years due to worn plastic parts inside the pump housing.
I run it about 4 hours a day 365 days a year.
The first failure was probably my own fault since I didn't check it often enough and it had sucked a plastic bag up into the strainer which starved the pump of water and wore out the impeller.
And last year it was time again for worn out impeller and other stuff.
All the grit and sand that blows into the pool will eventually wear out the pump but many and most parts are available if you want to tinker with it and replace parts.
As the pump wear, it will have a harder and harder time to pick up the water if the pipes has been drained by sitting a long time.
