When I read about Koenigsegg, thoughts of DeLorean and Bricklin come to mind. When I read that its head honcho is in his mid-thirties, I see the writing on the wall - Saab, if it survives at all, is going to end up as a very niche, ultra low volume, ultra high priced brand that might have one or two dealers in the U.S., preferring to concentrate on the European market. Say what you want about GM, and bash GM all you want for having "destroyed" Saab, but keep in mind that for the last decade, it's been the subsidizing by GM that has kept Saab alive as an AFFORDABLE alternative to Audi, BMW and Mercedes here in the US with a reasonably extensive dealer network. Those who are ecstatic about the fact that Saab will be going back to its pure Swedish roots ought to remember that the last time Saab was purely Swedish, it was on the verge of extinction as a brand, at least here in the US. I fear that's where we're headed now. While it might seem to be a dream come true that there may be, once again, a true Swedish designed, engineered and manufactured product which harkens back to the good old days of Saab individuality, it's not going to do us much good if it's unaffordable and unavailable in the US.

I hope I'm wrong and Koenisegg turns out to be the true saviour, but, as of now, I think I would have preferred Fiat or any US company as the purchaser, at least from the perspective of keeping the brand alive in the US.
