unless you do a longer southern route. Truckers usually take the most direct route so Ohio and PA tend to get more clogged with 18 wheelers.
Me, I'd probably do 64 to 77 then maybe drop down on 64/77 to get 81 and take that up through VA to PA. 81 is a nice road, and you only wind up on about a third of the PA turnpike (70). Or 64 to 79 then 68 to 81 and up to 70.
Of course, you can always stay on 40 coming east and pick up 81 in eastern TN (Knoxville?). That's not a terrible run, except for west TX and OK.
The difference in time on the routes is really only a few hours one way or the other. It's the hassle factor with lots of big trucks and added car traffic you want to avoid. Also, if you're in AAA you can get a sense of construction along the routes you choose and also some states have listings of work being done on main roads on their websites .
