I have a Dell Mini 9 with Linux. I bought it as a backup laptop when changing jobs, so I still have my "main" Windows laptop at home. I bought the Dell because it was the best deal with internal Bluetooth. Linux can work fine, but there are a few offbeat peripherals (Bluetooth GPS) that I have not yet been able to get working. Other peripherals (external hard drive) surprised me by being too easy -- plug and play easier than Windows, no driver install needed. The "free" stuff in Linux is great. Open Office has fewer errors than Word (even the Windows version). There's a CAD program that's free, games, etc. It's still a little light for all work related stuff, but might be great on vacation. Just go in with your eyes open -- buy early so you'll be used to it.
