So at least I don't slow down the folks behind me.
What is interesting is how efficient some airports are while others don't seem to have clue. The ones with 3 lanes so families, occasional and seasoned travelers are separated seem to work the best. But in some airports the lanes all funnel into the same set of X-ray machines so the only advantage is the shorter line. (Unless some amateurs decide to sneak in, which happens about 50% of the time.)
I like the airports where high FF status (like Star Alliance Gold) gets you a dedicated lane. This makes it a breeze.
OTOH, what you have to carry can be a problem. When I'm on a video shoot some airports want to look at all my toys. Video cams and microphones fascinate TSA guys. So does one of my tripods. But it's not the case everywhere. Most places don't even blink, while others get out the sniffer or want to re-run everything. I allow extra time for this.
Internationally is often better but they seem to have more people and equipment. In Germany they usually have a double check, with the second one at the gate. And the Germans really love to look at video gear. Sigh. France, OTOH is pretty easy. Actually, one of the easiest is Israel, where they simply look at everything, but are geared up for it, at least on my trip there. But they let you carry water through security.
