I have a Polar that interfaces with my Concept II rowing ergometer and Garmin that "talks" to my Garmin Edge 305 bike computer. I can tell you the Garmin is much more reliable than the Polar. The Polar is constantly dropping out even with fresh batteries and conductor gel on the chest strap electrodes. The Garmin works fine even when bone dry. Now this may have as much to do with the receiver as the sensor/transmitter - so take my advice with a grain of salt - althoguh the Garmin strap is much better made.
