hence the bodies as well. If you want something small and inexpensive, Pentax K2000 is a good one, currently going for $550 (shipping incl.) at Costco.com. It's a two-lens kit, an 18-55mm and a 50-200mm, both are very good, optically and built-wise, compared to Canon/Nikon/Sony kit lenses. The camera has sensor-based shake reduction, possibly not as effective as lens-based, but it works on all lenses.
I think Nikon D40 is good too, can be bought new for ~$450 or so, with the standard 18-55mm kit lens. Ross is right, however. Megapixel is a marketing ploy. And it makes no sense to spend too much money on DSLR bodies -- the electronics will most likely die long before the shutter.
