I have the LL Bean Edition which is really loaded up with luxury features. I always thought Subarus were fine until you stepped on the gas. But the 6 cylinder really transforms the car--much like the difference between the turbo and non-turbo Saabs. I get slightly less in terms of MPG in city driving than I did with my NG900 5 speed. On the highway 24-26 is the norm--you can certainly do better in a Saab, but not bad for a heavier car with 4x4 and not the best aerodynamics. I also drive my employer's sport-utes (4 runner, Envoy) and my car handles so much better. I live in a very rugged mountain environment at the moment (I'm thinking seriously about getting studded snow tires) so a Saab isn't an option at the moment. But as an altenative to a sport-ute, and Subaru is a good choice to someone with a Saab mentality.
