One thing I will advise is NOT to put it on your lap without at least a flat platform (even a piece of wood large enoough to support all the feet)under it to make sure you get proper airflow. If it's in your lap you are blocking ports.

I have had the same issues, and the same corporate behavior from Toshiba. They design defective units. They repair them over and over with the same parts. Toshiba was even repairing and recycling the bad mobos to the next warranty claim by the next guy. I had mine at the service center - they had three DOA mobo's come in before they could get me one that worked. Management and the corporate attorneys were well aware of the issues and they'd already circled the wagon. Once the warranty ends, they are done with you.

One nasty surprise: my current Toshiba had the mobo die at 11 months of age. I got it repaired, but figured I should extend the warranty since it's likley to fail after another 12 months. I called Toshiba and I was told that you had to extend the warranty before the unit was none months old. I'm guessing they figured out that 90% of the people renewing after none months had problem systems, and it isn't worth the money they get to insure those systems. Nice company.

You might want to consider a class action lawsuit. If those systems really are all failing with multiple mobo replacements, you might be able to bring a class action suit that it does not meet the UCC implied warranty of merchantability. I was involved in a laptop class actionsuit - the attorneys got a very large class of people a one year warranty extension. It wasn't a new machine, but at least it meant the machine lasted two full years. Five mobos in that one. Just after the extended warranty ran out, it died again.
