Be sure to buy really good parts Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Fri, 1 Jan 2010 17:47:36 In Reply to: Can do it yourself..., Dan s, Fri, 1 Jan 2010 17:00:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I had my timing belt replaced in the dead of winter at 75,000 miles when the thermostat failed (recommended interval on my car was 90,000 miles). I bought all name-brand parts, including a Graf waterpump (made in Germany) that failed 30,000 miles later (I replaced it with a genuine Audi part the second time). You really don't want to do this job more times than necessary.
If you are talking about Blau Parts as the place who supplies kits and loans tools, I would stay far away, as I have gotten many substandard parts from them requiring job redos - you do not want to have to do this job more often than necessary. They do not name the manufacturer of many of their parts, i.e. who makes the waterpump in their kits?
